Trying to break up the Covid boredom

To break the boredom, we drove up to Mount Charleston today. We didn’t visit the bar at the Mount Charleston Lodge, or the restaurant at the Mount Charleston Resort – but both were packed. The parking lots were completely full.

We first headed to Lee Canyon where the ski resort is. We had hoped to maybe see a wild burrow or a wild horse. While we didn’t see any burrows, we scored big on the wild horse front. Maybe there are more showing themselves due to the smaller crowds during the pandemic. We must have seen half a dozen in different spots. This one was just chilling in one of the grassy play areas, where nobody is playing right now.

Yesterday while I was out getting in my morning steps with Kona – I was getting steps while Kona was pooping and peeing – we spotted two out of the ordinary things along Youngtown Street. (Youngtown Street seems odd to me for a neighborhood in Sun City.) We spotted a Yellow Headed Blackbird hopping around in a tree. Then, just strolling down the middle of the street, we spotted a very healthy-looking coyote. Bonus!

Our last venture out in the car was to see the new Intermountain Healthcare Performance Center – a very fancy name for the Henderson based headquarters and practice facilities for the Las Vegas Raiders football team. While not quite open to the public yet, the facility looks pretty much done. Between this, Allegiant Stadium where the Raiders will play, all the facilities for the Golden Knights, and the new casinos soon to open, Las Vegas has changed quite a bit since the last time we were here for any amount of time.

We hope to be talking to you soon.

Finally some personal contact - sort of

After over 2 months of total isolation, we decided that we needed to have some kind of interaction with friends. Our BFF’s Ron and Teresa found a city park that was about half way between our dwellings. We found a vacant shaded picnic table, sat at each end giving us the required distancing, and share lunch while also catching up on life under the pandemic. Teresa shared how she was part of a group making face masks for students, hoping to keep them a bit safer if they return to school. Bravo!

It looks like our daily entertainment provided by the Pig may be coming to an end. Yesterday we found what we assumed was a farewell message from the Pig.

Today, when we wandered by its usual location, this is what we found. Bummer!

We hope to be talking to you soon.

Morning entertainment

Once settled in a bit, we started our routine of morning walks before the oppressive heat sets in. Down the block from us we spotted a lawn ornament sporting designer sunglasses, but had no idea at the time what was coming. The next day, we saw the same lawn ornament was practicing appropriate social distancing.

We began to just reference the lawn ornament as “The Pig”. The next morning, the Pig was carefully holding onto a roll of toilet paper.

The next morning, the Pig was eloquently decked out.

Next morning, the Pig was sporting a hat that would have been more than welcome at the Kentucky Derby.

Next morning the Pig was busily working out.

Taking a break, we assume, we spotted the Pig hiding behind a shrub.

The next morning, the Pig was busy knitting an afghan.

And this morning, the Pig was just arising from a comfortable night’s sleep.

We left a note taped to the garage door thanking the folks living there for the daily entertainment they were providing the neighborhood. This morning when we paid our daily visit to the Pig, we spotted this note on the very same garage door. Awesome!

Talk to you soon.
